Honoring Mary: Advocating for Dignity in End-of-Life Care
This past week, we said goodbye to Mary, a beloved client who passed away after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. May her memory be a blessing.
Mary’s journey was a powerful reminder of the importance of dignity, advocacy, and compassionate care at the end of life. Her devoted family led the way, supported by a dedicated care team that included Senior Options Care Managers, hospice professionals, home health aides, and memory care staff. Even Princess, our support dog, offered comfort by Mary’s side throughout her final days.
Early on, Mary had expressed her end-of-life wishes clearly: to avoid life-prolonging measures that would only prolong suffering. When discrepancies arose between the hospice team and memory care facility regarding medication delivery, her family and our team united to uphold her wishes—ensuring she was treated with the respect and comfort she deserved.
Mary passed peacefully, surrounded by love and care. While we mourn her loss, we are at peace knowing that her voice was honored until the very end.
At Senior Options, we are committed to walking this path with families—advocating for our clients, coordinating care, and ensuring dignity at every stage of aging.
